Mississippi blues and good ole’ & rsquo; home cooking just seem to go hand-in-hand. They absolutely go well together at Coopertown Café, a dining establishment located in Hattiesburg, run by indigenous Brookhaven siblings, Cameron and Doyce Cleckler. “& ldquo; We come from a cooking family,” & rdquo; claimed proprietor, Cameron Cleckler. Their grandparents, Houston and Gladys Jordan, opened up The 84 Dairy Spin in the 1960s.
Not just are the food and songs southerly, yet the décor is, as well. Each tabletop displays a theme, whether it be “& ldquo; Chosen the Wind” & rdquo; or & ldquo; Southern Miss. & rdquo; Camp Shelby is also represented. “& ldquo; Every tabletop is an initial that we made ourselves,” & rdquo; stated C. Cleckler. The café has an informal feel. The owner described the ambience as “& ldquo; very laid back & rdquo; – and & ldquo; laid-back dining & rdquo;-- the best atmosphere for the smooth, silky blues. A quote in the vibrant Coopertown Café menu reviews, “& ldquo; Food made with love by individuals who enjoy food.”
